We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han
As I’ve said in my last reviews this 100% is my summer book. I'm super sad that this is the end of the series and I really wish Jenny Han continued it.
The love story between Belly and her boys continues on. She’s all grown up now and is in college. At the end of the second book you see that she’s with Jeremiah and the third book continues from there. In this book a lot happens. Stuff with Laurel (Belly’s mom,) Jeremiah, Conrad, Taylor and Adam (Mr. Fisher.) You get to see everything and this book was very well detailed.
As you saw in the ending of the last book, Belly is dating Jeremiah and is very happy with him. She even decided to go to the same college as him. You’ll see Belly and Jeremiah have some troubles but they try to fix it by making rash decisions which is what the whole book is based off of. Though Belly is with Jeremiah and has set her mind on being with him. She still has a soft spot for Conrad. She still thinks of him and cares for him, her heart will always be with Conrad. You see throughout the book when she’s around Conrad that they still have little moments but both decide against it.
I feel like the ending of this book wasn’t done the greatest. I still LOVE this book but I feel like it was rushed. You got every single detail leading up to the end and I'll explain why I think this down below, however that part will have spoilers. Now, unfortunately this book is very hard to write something about without giving away anything so from here and below read at your own risk, this part WILL have spoilers:
SPOILERS:
So much happened leading up to the end but……
SHE ENDS UP WITH CONRAD!!! This is exactly what I wanted and was hoping for throughout all the books! For me it was always going to be Conrad. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jeremiah but I was a Conrad girl. I love how leading up to it all Conrad wanted was for Belly to be happy. Even if it meant she was going to marry his brother. Conrad even went to see Belly’s mom when she wasn’t talking to Belly because she was upset about her getting married so young.
Throughout the book you got to see Conrad’s perspective as well not just Belly’s. The other books you only got to read through Belly not through the boys, so I like that we got a different perspective.
The last couple of chapters felt rushed, so much information was fit into say about five chapters. Like I said Belly did not marry Jeremiah but you found that out on the second last chapter of the book. Then the next chapter is a couple years later and you read Belly getting married and as you read on you realize she's marrying Conrad. And the reason I feel like it's rushed is because you don’t get to see anything leading up to her marrying Conrad. You do get to see a couple of letters he wrote Belly after everything and she went studying in Spain and then one letter she wrote back. They talked about how that one christmas they spent together was their favourite and how the Fisher’s have a christmas portrait that Susannah made them take and how now its hanging in their living room and then it ends. I loved the letters, I thought they were super cute!!! But again, I wish we got to see more.
Since I loved Belly with Conrad I would’ve loved to see how that happened, how they got together, how it continued on from her supposed to be wedding day with Jeremiah, or how Conrad proposed, any troubles they had, how their connection with Jeremiah was (even though they said it was okay, they didn't give much) or even how the connection between the “summer kids'' were, etc. I just felt like that part was missing, or it could’ve turned into a fourth book.
You get to see that the reason Conrad left Belly and stayed away was for Jeremiah, before Susannah passed. He promised her that he would take care of Jeremiah and make sure he’s happy. And Conrad saw that he was happy with Belly. So even though it hurt him so much, he left for Jeremiah and for Susannah.
One part that I thought was the cutest was before Susannah passed she wrote letters to all the kids for their wedding day. I really really wish we got to see what she wrote all of them, Conrad, Jeremiah and Steven. We got to see what she wrote Belly on her day and we got a “Dear Conrad,” but that’s it. You did read how when Jeremiah got his letter and read it on his supposed wedding day with Belly, Susannah actually mixed up the envelopes and put Conrads in his. Jeremiah said that in Conrad's letter it said that Susannah had only seen him in love once and it had been with Belly. I wanted to see what would've been in Jeremiah and Steven’s notes. I feel like that would've been a big part of the book we should’ve seen as it helped them make decisions. Susannah was a huge part of book #1 and #2 and we didn’t get much of her this book.
Okay, so this is much much longer than I thought it would be, so i'm going to end it here. Go read this book, I promise you won't regret it. I very much recommend this book and if you’ve read the other 2 books, I know you’ll love it.
